FORMAT: DVD, ntsc CAT. NO.: 8130 YEAR: 2004 LABEL: Century Media
I have waited a long time for this! As you may have noticed, this band treats its fans with loads of special releases. Last year they gave us a single edition of The Bards Song, which preceded a double live album simply called Live (how inventive) as well as organising a BLIND GUARDIAN festival.
This DVD is based on that festival so naturally the festival show is the main attraction, a set of 20 songs, all classic in the B.G. catalogue. Opening the show with War Of Wrath, the crowd soon joins in with the dialogue between the servant and king, the atmosphere and expectations escalate and BOOM!!!, Time Stands Still (At The Iron Hill) explodes from the huge stage, its on!
A very good show indeed with old classics like Banish From Sanctuary, Nightfall, Mordreds Song, Lord Of The Rings, The Bards Song and Valhalla, where the last mentioned really gets the best of the fans who dont seem to stop chanting VALHALLA!!! DELIVERANCE... anytime soon. The guys are very relaxed but they look a bit nervous from the start but after three or four songs they start to loosen up, move around and show their skills. Hansi is a great vocalist but I feel he could do more with his vocals in this show, its as if hes holding back the aggressive style that he does so well on albums.
Theyve even thrown the epic And Then There Was Silence into the set list; a very demanding track thats impossible to create live without a proper orchestra behind you but they pull it of nicely, definitely one of the highlights in the concert.
On the other disc we have some special features. First up is an interview with the band; sadly its only in German but with the English subtitles in the right place its interesting to watch hehe. The report on the making of the B.G. festival gives an insight on how it all came to be, a walk through the whole production of the festival (stage setup, lightshows, soundchecks etc etc).
Imaginations Through The Looking Glass has both quantity and quality, simply a must for B.G. fans and Power Metal in general.
