SAXON To Hell And Back Again - 2007 US 2-DVD

Another SAXON DVD you say? Yes, the British Metal frigate around Biff Byford has another double DVD on the market, titled 'To Hell And Back Again', so why do we need yet another one of those? In the early 2000s there were three relatively cheap DVDs and the brilliant and spectacular “Saxon Chronicles” and then there was talk about a new one, which actually took all the way to 2007 to come out.

Now what does make 'To Hell And Back Again' different is the format of it, as the heart piece is a 100-minute documentary surrounding the 'Lionheart' album, from the recordings out in the nowhere of the British province over the shooting of the videos (“Beyond The Grave” and “Witchfinder General”) to the tour, with a lot of background information, including some infos about how to properly market an album for the maximum effect, which might be a bit of a lesson for up and coming bands, how to do it right. Add to that clips from Graspop, Wacken, the release party in Hamburg, a gig in Scotland, Russia and the final of the tour in Paris. The first DVD is rounded off with the soundtrack, together with pictures of the mentioned live gigs.

DVD number two contains five videos (among them the two we saw in the documentary), 12 songs from the Rocksound festival in Switzerland, and as bonus one special version of “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming” with DORO and two more live tracks from the Rock For Asia festival, proving once more that these old gentlemen are among the best live bands of this planet!

Even if you already have 'Saxon Chronicles', 'To Hell And Back Again' is worth your money due to the background information you get, the Eagle is still soaring!
